Terms of Use
Who we are
Long Island Trades (LongIslandTrades.com) is a job board for construction and trades work on Long Island. It is run by Ritual Media and Productions Ltd., a New York corporation ("we" or "us"). Registered address: 418 Broadway STE R, Albany, NY 12207. Contact: jobs@longislandtrades.com.
By using the site, posting a job, adding a worker card, or sending a message, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
What we are and what we are not
- We are a listing board. We show short job posts and short worker cards, and we pass messages from employers to workers by email.
- We are not an employer, a staffing agency, an employment agency, or a recruiter. We do not hire, place, interview, or vouch for anyone.
- The site is free to post and free to join during our launch. Right now we do not charge workers or employers any fee.
- We may add fees later. If we do, we will update these terms and post a notice on the site at least 30 days before any fee starts. Posts and cards already live when a fee starts will not be charged for retroactively.
- We do not promise that you will get a job, find a worker, or hear back from anyone.
- We do not check that an employer is real, licensed, insured, or will pay what it says. We do not check that a worker's licenses or experience are true. Do your own checks before you take a job or hire someone.
Stay safe
- A real employer will never ask you to pay to apply, buy equipment or training up front, or cash a check and send money back.
- Do not give your Social Security number, bank details, or ID to anyone before a real job offer.
- If something looks wrong, stop and tell us at jobs@longislandtrades.com. You can also report job scams to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
Who can use the site
- You must be at least 18 years old to add a worker card. New York law does not allow anyone under 18 to do most construction work, and this board is for construction and trades jobs.
- If you post a job, you must be allowed to post for the business you name.
Job posts
- We only list jobs that employers send to us. We do not copy or scrape job listings from other sites.
- A post is a short card: title, company, company website, town, trade, pay range, a short description, and a link to the full listing on the employer's own site. Applying and hiring happen on the employer's site or directly with the employer.
- Every post must show a real minimum and maximum pay, hourly or yearly, that you believe in good faith is accurate. This is our rule for every post, no matter how many people you employ. New York Labor Law Section 194-b also requires a pay range, and a job description if one exists, in ads for jobs done at least partly in New York. You are responsible for following that law and all wage, employment, and anti-discrimination laws.
- We do not accept commission-only jobs.
- Your post must be for a real, open job that you are hiring for, and it must be accurate.
- Your post must not say or hint that you prefer or will not hire people because of age, race, creed, color, national origin, citizenship or immigration status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, military status, sex, disability, genetic traits, family status, marital status, or being a victim of domestic violence. For example, do not write "young crew," "recent grads only," "men only," or "must be a U.S. citizen" unless the law truly requires it. Stating a real job need, like "must hold a valid driver's license" or "must be able to lift 50 pounds," is fine.
- A post goes live after we approve it and comes off the site 30 days after approval. To change or remove a post sooner, email jobs@longislandtrades.com.
Worker cards
- Your card must be about you and be true, including licenses and certifications.
- Portfolio links must show your own work or work you are allowed to share. We do not run the linked sites.
- Your card stays up until you remove it with your private removal link or from the Manage page (/manage), or ask us to remove it. We may remove cards that are more than 12 months old after emailing you first.
- You choose "Looking now" or "Quietly open" when you add your card. Anyone can see a "Looking now" card, including your current employer. A "Quietly open" card hides your name and town, but it is low-key, not secret, and someone who knows you may still recognize it. Do not name your current employer on a "Quietly open" card. We may decline a card that does.
Messages between employers and workers
- Employers can send a message through a card. We email it to the worker. The worker's email is not shown. If the worker replies, the employer will see the worker's email address.
- Only contact workers about real work. No spam, sales pitches, recruiting fees, or collecting workers' details for other uses.
- We do not keep a copy of messages on the site, so we cannot pull back a message once it is sent. We can block a sender from sending more.
- We limit how many messages can be sent to stop spam.
Rules for everything you send us
Do not post or send anything that: - is false, misleading, or for a job that does not exist; - asks a worker to pay a fee, buy equipment, or give a Social Security number or bank details before a real job offer; - shows a preference against anyone because of the traits listed under "Job posts," unless the law allows it; - harasses, threatens, or is hateful; - includes someone else's personal information without their OK; - is spam, a pyramid or multi-level marketing scheme, or unrelated advertising; - breaks any law or someone else's rights.
Our review and removal rights
We review every job post and worker card before it goes live. Review is a quick check for spam, scams, missing pay, and posts that break these rules. It is not a background check and it is not a promise that a post or card is true. We do not rewrite what you send. If something needs to change, we will ask you to fix it or we will decline it. We may decline or remove any post or card, and block anyone from posting or messaging, at any time and for any reason, including spam, inaccuracy, abuse, or a complaint.
Permission to show your content
You keep ownership of what you send us. You give us permission to store, display, and share it on the site and with search engines such as Google, for as long as it is on the site.
Links to other sites
Job posts and portfolios link to sites we do not run. Those sites have their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for them.
Job alerts
We do not send job alert emails right now, and there is no way to sign up for them. If we offer job alerts in the future, we will update this page before they start, they will need your OK by a confirm email, and every alert will have an unsubscribe link.
No warranty
The site is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not promise it will always work, be error free, or be secure. To the extent the law allows, we make no other promises about the site, the posts, the cards, or the messages.
Limits on our liability
- Posts, cards, and messages are written by employers and workers, not by us. We are not responsible for them, for linked sites, or for any hiring decision, job, pay, injury, or loss that comes from dealing with another user.
- To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, special, or lost-profit damages, and our total liability to you for any claim about the site is limited to $100.
- These limits do not apply where the law does not allow them, such as for our own fraud, gross negligence, or intentional harm.
If your content causes a claim against us
If you post a job, card, or message that breaks these terms or the law, and someone makes a claim against us because of it, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with that claim, including reasonable lawyer fees.
Disputes and governing law
- These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its rules about choosing another state's law.
- If you have a problem, email jobs@longislandtrades.com first and give us 30 days to try to fix it.
- If we cannot fix it, either of us may bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies. Otherwise, claims must be brought in the state courts in Suffolk County, New York, or the federal court for the Eastern District of New York, and you and we agree to those courts.
- There is no forced arbitration. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under laws that cannot be waived.
Changes
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top. For big changes, we will email people with live posts or cards before the change takes effect.
